Telescope God

 
Telescope God
 
One end of a telescope
Makes things look big and close.
The other end small and far.
 
Like a little kid that hasn’t quite
Figured it out
We use both ends to look for God.
 
Large, loving, close,
—flip—
Small, murderous, distant.
 
In my old church
We read one passage
From the Old Testament
To vengeance
 
Then flipped the telescope
And read one passage
From the New Testament
To forgiveness.
